The "Need a Savior" musician, who's experienced a massive rise to fame over the last couple years, knows this year wasn't his only chance to win a Grammy. "We come back next year stronger [with] more nominations," he added. "I’m inspired."
Also nominated in for best new artist were Noah Kahan, Ice Spice, Gracie Abrams, The War and Treaty, Fred again.. and Coco Jones. Upon accepting the award, Monét gave thanks to the champagne servers and voting members of the Recording Academy before getting emotional.
"This award was a 15-year pursuit. I moved to LA in 2009. And I like to liken myself to a plant who was planted and you can look at the music industry as soil and it can look to be looked at as dirty or can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water," said Monét, 34. "And my roots have been growing underneath ground unseen for so long. And I feel like today I'm sprouting finally above ground."
With her 2023 album Jaguar II, Monét took the Grammy Awards by storm, becoming the second-most nominated artist of the year with seven nominations.
She got her start writing for stars like Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Fifth Harmony, and recalled waiting for the right moment to "pounce" in her acceptance speech.

"I correlated the music industry to the jungle," Monét said. "The jungle is a jaguar’s environment, but it’s not always the first thing you see. I felt that way about being behind the scenes in music. It took a lot of time, but I was happy to do it."
At the 2024 Grammys, Jelly Roll was also nominated in the best country duo/group performance category for his song "Save Me" with Lainey Wilson. The award ultimately went to "I Remember Everything" by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves.
