Jenna Ortega Sounds Off on Popular “You” Season 3 Fan Theories

“I really want Ellie to come out of this stronger than before.”

There’s no doubt that the second season of Netflix’s You left us with a whole bunch of questions. Are Love and Joe just going to basically get away with, y’know, murder? What ever happened to Paco? Who is Joe’s mysterious new neighbor? What’s going to happen to Ellie?!

As for that last one, Jenna Ortega has some thoughts. In a new interview with Insider, the actor sounded off on a couple of popular fan theories making the rounds online. Jenna noted that some people have surmised that Ellie might come back to kill Joe and Love to get revenge for her sister Delilah’s murder. (Of course, Ellie doesn’t yet know the truth behind Delilah’s death or disappearance.)

Jenna isn’t particularly fond of that theory, telling Insider: “To me, that defeats the purpose of Ellie's storyline. Right now we see her as somebody who's incredibly hurt and has been screwed over and kind of got the worst of the worst — to bring her back and make her a murderer like Joe defeats the purpose because that's not her character and that's not in her heart.” She added that Ellie wouldn’t go out of her way to murder someone in such a premeditated way, explaining: “It takes away from her innocence and it takes away from that fear factor that she has of being a teenage girl involved with this psycho serial killer, Joe.”

But there is one theory that Jenna loves: she hopes that Ellie ends up releasing Forty’s movie that she’d been assisting prior to his death. “I really want Ellie to come out of this stronger than before, and I know how badly she wants to be a director,” she told Insider. “I'm hoping that somehow she gets roped back into L.A. because she creates this short film or this film and directs it and it gets a lot of attention ... if it could be Dark Face of Love, that would be great.”

While there’s no word yet on when You Season 3 will hit Netflix, we can all rest assured that a third installment of the popular series is on its way. At the end of last year, actor Penn Badgley let it slip that a third season seemingly existed; a few weeks later, the news was confirmed by the streaming service itself. And with author Caroline Kepnes penning a third and fourth novel in the You series, we definitely haven't seen the last of Joe — or Ellie — just yet.
