Jennifer Lawrence’s Latest ’90s Look Is Giving Us Practical Magic

Jennifer Lawrence is leaning into a whimsigoth summer. Her street style has always veered toward the simple classics of Gap’s heyday, but her latest outfit is ’90s in a whole new way.

Spaghetti-strap tank top with a button-down, sleeves bunched up, and a black shoulder bag? The dark sunglasses? The mid-calf skirt??? Tell me that’s not something Gillian and Sally Owens would wear to rebury the abusive ex they killed and resurrected. Maybe Lawrence is angling for a role in the just-announced Practical Magic sequel and already dressing the part. We can see it.

Also worth noting is that she’s sticking with her “pop of red” from winter. She embraced crimson with a bold coat, then used it again during the transitional dressing season with a sweater. Now, it’s protecting her skin from the sun, proving that the color is workable year-round.

The Oscar winner accessorized with stud earrings, a gold chain necklace, and buckled flats. Her husband, Cooke Maroney, meanwhile, opted for the tried-and-true combo of a white shirt and dark pants, plus sneakers, which are having a moment in NYC this summer. Dakota Johnson has been a one-woman sneaker parade as of late, while Emily Ratajkowski continues to show off her impressive collection of kicks.

Jennifer Lawrence and her husband, Cooke Maroney, are spotted on a casual lunch date in New York on June 17, 2024.

Before this ensemble, Jennifer Lawrence directly shouted out to another movie project, wearing the “I Told Ya” tee that figures prominently in Challengers. That Loewe tee is itself a ’90s flashback, a reference to something JFK Jr. wore. Challengers director Luca Guadagnino is set to direct Lawrence in an upcoming film, so it’s all connected.

The project is called Burial Rites, and Lawrence plays a woman named Agnes who, according to IMDb, “is charged with a brutal murder and sent to an isolated farm to await execution.”

Sounds interesting, but hear us out.… What if on the farm she does magic…and plays tennis…
