Jenny Slate to Publish New Essay Collection: ‘I Am So Eager to Share It'
The actress and comedian published her bestselling first book, ‘Little Weirds,’ in 2019
Jenny Slate is back on her writing game.
The comedian, actress and producer, 41, announced the forthcoming publication of her new essay collection, Lifeform. The book will be published by Little, Brown and Company on Oct. 22.
“Completing this new work was a singular pleasure,” Slate says in a statement, “I dove deep and I think I’ve surfaced more alive than ever, and I am so eager to share it all with anyone who is willing and ready. I know I am!”
In Lifeform, the author will write of her “singular, strange and beautiful” experience of motherhood. Slate welcomed her daughter, Ida Lupine, with husband Ben Shattuck in 2021.
"I do feel like becoming a mother has gotten me closer to me more consistently being at what I enjoy... feeling at my best," Slate told Parade in 2022. "I don't think I've ever been so consistently happy."

Lifeform comes on the heels of Slate’s 2019 debut essay collection, Little Weirds. The book, which was a New York Times bestseller, detailed Slate’s perspective on the “pain and beauty of life," per the book’s description, and explored topics like family, the end of relationships and self-love.
Slate is known for her roles in TV shows like Parks and Recreation and Bob’s Burgers, and films like Obvious Child, Gifted and Everything Everywhere All at Once. She co-created, co-produced and starred in the Oscar-nominated film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Slate’s new A24 and Amazon Prime Video stand up special, Seasoned Professional, will be released on Feb. 23.
