Joe Biden Has Gone 132 MPH in His C2 Corvette

In addition to being the 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden is a long-time C2 Corvette owner. When he appeared on former Tonight Show host and current Taurus SHO owner Conan O'Brien's podcast, he took the opportunity to share a few stories about his '67 Corvette convertible. One of them includes an impressive top-speed run.

As president, Biden has access to a runway that the Secret Service uses as a test track. There, he says, he got the 327-powered Corvette up to 132 mph on a drive. Pretty good for a small block convertible, particularly one that Biden has owned since he received it as a surprise wedding gift when it was new.

That is not Biden's top speed in a car, though. He adds that he hit 171 mph in an unnamed Porsche equipped with launch control, although he does not specify either the model or when exactly it happened. Porsches have been equipped with launch control and capable of massive speeds since his stint as vice president from 2008 to 2016, so this run likely may have taken place when he had access to the Secret Service-owned runway but did not have to deal with all of the attention that comes with being the president.

This is, oddly, not the first time that Biden has shared stories about his '67 Corvette with a former Tonight Show host. He also drove the car on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage, even drag-racing it against a C7. Biden tells O'Brien that Leno offered him $144,000 for the car, which he turned down.
