John Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler mourn shared pet dog, Petunia: 'My little shadow'

John Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler are remembering the dog they previously shared while married, after the pup's death.

The comedian and artist both posted photos of their French bulldog, Petunia, on their respective Instagram pages, with kind words about what the canine meant to them.

"Rest in peace my sweet Petunia. You were my best friend and the great love of my life," Tendler wrote. "You were the funniest. You were the smartest. You were the weirdest. Everything about you was the best thing. To think I will never again hold you, hear you, or see your big, beautiful brown eyes gazing back at me seems unfathomable."

Tendler went on calling the dog her "companion," closing the post with,"Until we meet again in our next life."

Mulaney also shared a tribute, writing: "Petunia, I loved you from the first moment I saw you. Rest in peace. Thank you for being my little shadow."

The comedian has talked about the beloved pet in comedy sets and previous interviews.

"It's fun to have a French Bulldog puppy, it's like having a baby that's also a grandma," Mulaney told Ellen DeGeneres in 2018. "It's like being on a TV show that's all bloopers. Like she never does anything normal. I'll be like 'Petunia, let's get your breakfast ready' and then she leaves the room and comes back with a loofah in her mouth. Like it's the 'Carol Burnett Show' and she's trying to make me laugh."

Mulaney and Tendler wed in 2014 and often called Petunia their daughter. In May 2021, they announced their divorce. Four months later, Mulaney confirmed he was dating actress Olivia Munn and that the two were having a baby together. Their son, Malcolm, was born at the end of 2021.
