Joker Movie Producer Reveals The "Most Stressful" Scene To Film
The Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix had one incredibly stressful moment, which a producer on the Oscar-nominated film has now revealed.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff said: "The one scene that was very stressful for me was the stair dance, because Joaquin had been working on it for a while.
"And it's really the first time you're seeing the Joker, aside from the reveal in the room. This was an extremely important scene for him. His privacy while shooting the scene was of paramount importance to him.
"New York City has no paparazzi laws whatsoever. If you are in a public space, they can literally be at the camera. You can't tell them to get off the set."
He continued: "Every day we were outside we'd be done shooting, and it'd be all over the internet that night. We really wanted to protect this."
The particular scene also stirred controversy for using 'Rock and Roll Part 2', a song by Gary Glitter who was convicted of numerous sexual assault offences, including one count of raping a 13-year-old girl. It was later confirmed that the disgraced star would not receive any royalties for the song's use.
Koskoff continued: "There was no way to shield him. That was a major stress to me, believe it or not, because I wanted desperately to protect that.
"I'm pretty sure we did. I'd have to go rummage through the internet, but I'm pretty sure we got away with it somehow."
The Joker movie had the odds stacked against it. Firstly it was following a flubbed live-action Joker, played by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad.
Then the fact it was following some dire DC movies, including Justice League, although things had become more positive following Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam.
And Joaquin was inevitably going to face comparisons with the seminal Joker performance from the late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.
Nevertheless, the movie was hit with widespread critical acclaim and has scooped up a whopping eleven Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Director for Todd Phillips.
It's still unclear if we'll see another movie with Joaquin's Joker, based on the film itself, it seems unlikely, but the billion dollar box office takings were nothing to laugh at, so we certainly wouldn't be surprised to see DC deal out a sequel.
