Josh Lucas knows that if at first you don’t succeed, you try, try again. And he’s trying it again with his ex-wife.

The Sweet Home Alabama actor, 45, made his reconciliation with Jessica Ciencin Henriquez official when they stepped out as a couple at Monday’s Only Make Believe Gala at the St. James Theatre in NYC. Henriquez, a writer, wore an off-the-shoulder red dress with a peekaboo opening and killer red heels. Lucas went simple in a dark suit and made more of a statement by wrapping his arm around her waist.

Henriquez shared a photo of them — minus their heads — from the red carpet on Instagram.

Lucas and Henriquez, who are parents of a 4-year-old son, Noah Rev, reconciled in the spring — a year and a half after their divorce was finalized. People magazine noted at the time, “Since they divorced, they’ve proven to each other that the love between them is the real deal. They’re both completely committed to each other and Noah.”

The couple had a unique relationship from the start. When they met randomly at a dog park in 2011, Henriquez had just been diagnosed with cervical cancer, at the age of 25. Within six weeks, they were engaged and she became pregnant. She had to postpone treatment during her pregnancy, but all ended well when Noah was born in June 2012 — three months after they tied the knot.

The pair decided to divorce in January 2014, and it was finalized in October of that year, but they remained friendly and even went out to a celebratory dinner to sign their divorce papers. But the apartness didn’t last long. Last August, there were hints of a possible reconciliation when they moved back in together to better co-parent, while Henriquez pursued her MFA in creative writing at Columbia University. In the following months, the friendly exes made three different joint appearances — with their son — on the red carpet at family-friendly movie screenings.

By April, when they attended a screening of The Jungle Book, it all seemed a little too friendly for exes. Two months later it was reported they had reconciled.

Since then, Lucas has frequently popped up in Henriquez’s Instagram feed. The pair took Noah to his first football game (Jets!) over the weekend.

It’s been a busy year for celebrity exes reconciling. Patrick Dempsey and his wife, Jillian, just officially brought an end to their planned divorce. Ozzy Osbourne won back Sharon after cheating on her with a Hollywood hairstylist. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green shocked everyone by having a baby together in August — one year after filing for divorce. And now there are real rumblings that Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick could be reuniting — over a year after they split over photos of Disick cavorting with a celebrity stylist.

So maybe there is hope for superfriendly exes Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber after all? We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
