Justin Timberlake has the perfect response to 'It's Gonna Be May' meme

Once upon a time, many, many years ago, the Internet created a brand new meme that would go on to take over everybody’s timelines and newsfeeds for the entire month of April every year without fail.

Of course the meme in question is a photo of Justin Timberlake from his N*Sync days saying: “It’s gonna be May”.

The original.
The original.

(And just in case you are well and truly behind, the meaning behind it is that in the popular N*Sync song ‘It’s Gonna Be Me’, Justin’s boyband-in-the-year-2000-when-autotune-was-king vocals make the ‘me’ sound like ‘May’…. Get it?)

Nobody knows exactly when the meme first came to be, but it has evolved tremendously over the years – with it even becoming a meme within a meme when some savvy social media users replaced the traditional image of Justin with a photo of ramen noodles in reference to Justin’s infamous ‘noodle hair’ from his 90s boyband heyday:

The memes have evolved over the years.
The memes have evolved over the years.
A meme within a meme!
A meme within a meme!

Now Justin has finally caved and responded to his annual meme-storm in the best way possible, simply taking to Twitter last night and writing to his 59million followers: “Hey guys… It’s May.”

Needless to say, Twitter erupted and the comment was retweeted hundreds of thousands of times as fans applauded Justin for taking it all on the chin.

Responding mostly in gif form, his followers replied:

Until next year, Justin, until next year.
