The Kansas City Health Department temporarily shuts down this Panera Bread location

The Kansas City Health Department has shut down the Crown Center Panera Bread.

Inspectors visited the fast-casual restaurant at 2405 Grand Blvd. on Wednesday and found that only one of three employees had food handlers permits, according to city documents.

Customers were greeted with locked doors and a “business closed” notice from the health department.

City records indicate that the department visited the restaurant three times last month, each time advising that employees needed proper paperwork.

Panera did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for comment Wednesday.

The restaurant, known for its sandwiches, soups, salads and coffee, will be allowed to reopen after it has the necessary documentation.

A nearby Panera at 1850 W. 39th St. closed permanently at the end of October.
