The Met Gala 2024 dress code, “The Garden of Time,” prompted dozens of different interpretations. For a few, like Karol G, Ariana Grande, and Stray Kids’s Felix, the fairycore trend was the answer.
The fairycore aesthetic is all about dressing like your favorite little whimsical mythical creatures. While there aren’t any specific guidelines for fairycore – the point of it is indulging in fantasy after all – there are some popular styles. A few fairycore staples include bright earthy colors, wings, iridescent makeup and ethereal hairstyles, but overall, it’s really just about the vibe of the look and the Met Gala 2024 guests definitely delivered. While some opted for flowers, trees, and even decay, others decided to become the bright and ethereal fairies of the garden.
Most notably, Karol G arrived at the Met Gala 2024 red carpet fully embracing the fairycore trend. The Colombian singer wore a gem-embellished sheer nude corseted gown complete with attached gloves from Marc Jacobs. She accessorized with a sparkling headpiece as well as dangling earrings and cuffs attached to prosthetic fairy ears. Yes, you read that right. Fairy ears! “I think this was the perfect opportunity for me to express how I love fairies and dreamy vibe and fantasies,” Karol G told Vogue’s red carpet correspondents.
Another person who brought the fairy vibes to the Met Gala was the special performer for the night, Ariana Grande. The r.e.m. beauty founder attached a pair of wings to her cheekbones, accentuating her ethereal makeup, similar to a style she previously wore. On the carpet, she wore a “mother of pearl” dress, and for her performance, she switched into a corseted gown with sparkly green sheer fabric draping around her arms and flowing into a whimsical tiered skirt.
The fairycore aesthetic also got the stamp of approval from supermodels. Precious Lee merged the gothic trend and the fairycore trend with an all-black velvet gown with long, extended wings from Bad Binch TongTong. Amelia Gray brought the magic to the Met Gala with a picturesque mini dress with a round skirt holding flowers inside. As if it wasn’t mystical enough, the dress was adorned with lights and glowed.
The fairycore trend doesn’t have to always be so bold, however. Sometimes, it’s all in the details. Surely enough, Stray Kids member Felix turned heads at the Met Gala with his long platinum blonde hair. Tied in a half-up, half-down look, each side of his hair was adorned with two small braids and wavy curtain bangs. Though simple, the look drew comparisons to beloved fantasy characters like Legolas from Lord of the Rings.
So, if you’re thinking of trying the fairycore aesthetic out for yourself this spring, it seems you’re in luck because there was plenty of inspiration to go around at the Met Gala 2024.
