Kate Hudson is explaining how she found forgiveness for her estranged father Bill Hudson.

While on The Howard Stern Show's May 7 episode, the actress, 45, was asked about the current state of her relationship with Bill, now 74, as host Stern asked why the musician had "disowned" her.

"Honestly, it had nothing to do with me, it was all [my brother] Oliver," Kate joked with a laugh. "I take no responsibility for it."

She continued, "Oliver did this post, and I was like, 'Oli, what are you doing?' He did this thing [in 2015] where he was like, 'Happy abandonment day' on Father's Day. But it's just Oliver's dark sense of humor. I called him and was like, 'Why did you do this?' And next thing I know my father is disowning both of us, and I was like, I don't know what I did; I had nothing to do with this."

"Where are you at with him?" asked Stern, 70. Replied Kate, "I've done so much work, Howard. I love my father. I do."

The Oscar nominee explained that while she doesn't know Bill well, "I know him enough to know, throughout the years, that whatever it is that he carries, whatever it is that makes him unable to have the capacity to be our dad doesn't mean that he hasn't loved us from afar or tried his best."

"I wouldn't be me if it wasn't for my dad," added Kate.

Stern, in disbelief, said he figured Kate would be "angry." She explained, "No, I've been through all the rage stuff. You've gotta get it out. And then you have to heal it. ... I've had a lot of relationships that have sent me to a lot of therapy."

Kate and Oliver, 47, were raised by mom Goldie Hawn, as well as Kurt Russell, Hawn's longtime partner, alongside Kurt's son Boston and Kurt and Goldie's son Wyatt Russell.

"I feel so unconditionally loved by Kurt. He's the best," Kate told Stern, also praising Goldie, 78. "I was just so lucky."

Kate and Oliver have spoken over the years about trying to reconnect with their dad. Recently, on CBS Sunday Morning, Kate said "I don’t really have" a relationship with Bill at the moment "but it’s warming up."

"There’s warming up with this all happening," said Kate, who is releasing her debut album Glorious on May 17. "But it’ll be whatever it will be, you know? I have no expectation of that with my father. I just want him to be happy."
