Kate Middleton's new bangs are taking center stage!

As the Princess of Wales, 41, returned to royal duty this month, she showed hints of a different haircut. Instead of her go-to side part and long layers framing her face, the royal sported a middle part — and with a close inspection, newly cropped curtain bangs.

She's been wearing her hair loose on recent public outings, but she let her new bangs fully take the spotlight on Wednesday as she joined a family portage session for children with special needs. Princess Kate's hair was swept into an intricate updo, allowing the first good look at her brand-new fringe.

It's not unusual for Kate to try slightly different hairstyles, and fall seems to be her favorite season for experimenting. Last year, the royal debuted a fresh post-summer look as she accompanied her three children — Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte and Prince Louis — to their first day of school.

This latest hair update once again came after Kate stepped out of the spotlight for part of the summer, where she and Prince William took time off to spend time as a family. She returned to royal duty on Sept. 8, joining her husband in Wales to honor Queen Elizabeth on the first anniversary of her death.

While it's likely she already had her new haircut, it was disguised under a hat and swept into a chignon.

Princess Kate's bangs are a departure from her usual long tresses, but it's not the first time she's made such a chop. She previously played with cheek-sweeping bangs in 2015.

Through the years, the Princess of Wales has also various hairstyles, from rocking blonde highlights to sporting a shoulder-length cut in 2017 after anonymously donating seven inches of hair to a charity called the Little Princess Trust. The Herefordshire-based organization makes wigs from real hair and donates them to children who have lost their hair through chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

Princess Kate had a practical reason to opt for an updo at Wednesday's visit. At the portage session, a service that helps children with special educational needs and disabilities in their development, she sat on the ground and interacted with the kids and their families.

Earlier this year, the royal launched the Shaping Us campaign for her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

"The campaign is fundamentally about shining a spotlight on the critical importance of early childhood and how it shapes the adults we become," Kate said in a speech surrounding the project's launch. "This is why it is essential, to not only understand the unique importance of our earliest years but to know what we can all do to help raise future generations of happy, healthy adults."
