Kayaker’s body recovered Thursday after overturning in Lake Carolina

The body of a kayaker was recovered Thursday afternoon in Lake Carolina in Richland County, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources said.

The person kayaking overturned and did not resurface. DNR sent its dive team to rescue the person. The Columbia-Richland Fire Department also took part in the response and recovered the body.

The name of the kayaker has yet to be released by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

“Our thoughts are with the person’s family and loved ones,” DNR said on Twitter.
