Kelly Rutherford Reveals the Secret Behind Her Effortlessly Elegant Style — and Those Elevator Selfies (Exclusive)
"I love creating lives and creating worlds," the 'Gossip Girl' actress — who's been making a splash at Fashion Week — tells PEOPLE
Kelly Rutherford has been slaying at Fashion Week — and at life.
"I've always loved fashion," says the actress, 55, who has been seen at both Paris and New York Fashion Week recently looking stunning after a decade of mostly parenting out of the spotlight.
Now the Melrose Place and Gossip Girl star is also back on the small screen, starring in the French comedy Escort Boys, and she's embracing both being on TV again and being back on red carpets.
Her secret to looking so good?
"I really don't know," she muses. "I think the secret is just not to think about it too much and to enjoy your life and find your peace and your happiness somehow. I think it's also my lifestyle. I eat healthy. And also, my mom looks really young for her age, so maybe it's genetics."
She also makes sure to ignore any nonsense when it comes to women being considered irrelevant after 50.
"I think just tuning that out and enjoying your day and enjoying your life and enjoying your age, whatever age you are, and being really in gratitude for your health and wellbeing is key," she says. "It's all a blessing at the end of the day."
As for fashion, she says she was into style even before she found fame as a style maven on Gossip Girl.
"It's just the dreaminess of it all," she says of embracing fashion. "I used to make vision boards. I loved creating lives and creating worlds from the time I was very young. Not just fashion, but I've also always loved design and architecture. I love beauty, I love cities."
Her elegant elevator selfies on Instagram haven't gone unnoticed, either.
"Social media has always been an organic [thing] for me," she says. "I don't have anybody doing it for me. I never have. I post quotes and people like them, but it's not necessarily for likes or anything. I've found my way with it. I think we're just finding our way with all of this stuff appropriate for our age, our lifestyle, the things we like."

She adds, "I think it's so important to do our best just to put good energy out in the world. I think the world needs it. We all need it."
