Kennewick police catch teen shooting suspect when he showed up for an unrelated hearing

A 15-year-old was arrested for a Kennewick shooting during a separate hearing in juvenile court, police said.

Kennewick detectives believe the teen shot a man in the 5900 block of West 25th Avenue about 8:50 p.m. on May 6, according to a release from the police.

Police learned on Thursday that the 15-year-old was having a hearing at the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on unrelated charges, police said. Detectives contacted the teen and arrested him without incident.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.

Detectives began investigating the case on after several people called 911 to report that a man had been shot. When officer’s arrived they found the man had been shot in “his lower extremities.”

Police and firefighters provided medical help until he could be taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspect had fled prior to their arrival.
