16-year-old arrested after daylight drive-by shooting near Kennewick grocery store

A 16-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a shooting near the WinCo grocery store in Kennewick.

Witnesses saw a person get out of a car near the intersection of West Clearwater and North Union Street and open fire at another car about 1:30 p.m., Kennewick police said.

Dispatch reports said one person was dropped off a short time later with a gunshot wound at a local hospital.

Kennewick detectives are continuing to work to determine if the shooting was connected to the wounded person.

Kennewick Sgt. Chris Littrell told the Herald that detectives are reviewing video and speaking to witnesses in an attempt to link the shooter with the victim.

Officers reported finding a 16-year-old boy on the 4200 block of West Albany on Tuesday and arresting him on investigation of first-degree assault. He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center in Kennewick, according to a news release.

The teen’s name was not released.
