Kentucky baseball takes aim at College World Series with challenging 2024 schedule
The University of Kentucky unveiled a 2024 baseball schedule Wednesday that includes 11 opponents that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament, including two that made it to the College World Series.
The Wildcats, entering their eighth season under head coach Nick Mingione, are coming off a 2023 season in which they hosted and won an NCAA Tournament regional before being eliminated in the super-regional round by eventual national champion LSU at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Kentucky is not scheduled to face LSU among its 10 Southeastern Conference regular-season opponents in 2024. The Wildcats will host Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Vanderbilt in league series and travel to face Missouri, Mississippi, Auburn, South Carolina and 2023 College World Series runner-up Florida.
Kentucky’s non-conference schedule includes home-and-away games against in-state rivals Louisville and Eastern Kentucky in addition to home games only versus Morehead State, Murray State and Western Kentucky.
UK, which finished 40-21 overall and 16-14 in the SEC last season, opens the season Feb. 16-18 with a three-game series at South Carolina-Upstate. The Wildcats play their home opener at Kentucky Proud Park on Feb. 20 against Morehead State.
The 54-game schedule consists of 29 home games, 22 road games and three contests played at a neutral site — that being the Karbach Classic at Round Rock, Texas, Feb. 23-25 where the Cats will face Washington State, Texas State and Kansas.
In addition to College World Series runner-up Florida, Kentucky will take on 10 other foes from last season’s NCAA Tournament: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Lipscomb, Samford, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wright State and Xavier.
