Kentucky football coaches name district players, coaches of the year for 2023
The Kentucky Football Coaches Association on Tuesday announced its district players and coaches of the year, according to a vote of its membership.
From Lexington, Lexington Christian’s Brady Hensley, Lexington Catholic’s Jackson Wasik, Tates Creek’s Andrew Witherington and Bryan Station’s Trenton Cutwright were recognized as their respective district players of the year.
From the coaching ranks, Sayre’s Chad Pennington, LCA’s Doug Charles, Lexington Catholic’s Nick Baisch, Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Wes Johnson and Frederick Douglass’s Nathan McPeek were selected as district coaches of the year.
The KFCA district player and coach of the year honors are a precursor to its class-by-class player and coach of the year awards that are typically announced during the KHSAA’s state championship games where each district honoree will receive his award.
Later this year, the KFCA will recognize a Mr. Football and state coach of the year. The KFCA’s Mr. Football, awarded since 2018, continues the tradition of the original award that was selected by Associated Press-affiliated media up until 2021.
