Kentucky’s junior-senior all-star game pits Reed Sheppard vs. Travis Perry one more time

Before the Kentucky high school boys’ and girls’ basketball all-star teams square off in their annual series against Indiana next month, each squad of senior players will participate in a tuneup game versus standouts from the junior class.

The rosters for the senior squads were announced last month. Kentucky’s Junior All-Stars were announced Wednesday.

The juniors will face the seniors in an exhibition game at Eastern High School on June 3 at 1 p.m.

The boys’ game features a rematch of last season’s showdown between 2023 Kentucky Mr. Basketball Reed Sheppard of North Laurel and Travis Perry of Lyon County.

Perry, who became the commonwealth’s all-time leading boys’ high school scorer during the 2023 Sweet Sixteen state tournament in Rupp Arena, has received a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky among several other schools. Sheppard, the son of former UK basketball stars Jeff and Stacey Reed Sheppard, will be a freshman for the Wildcats this fall.

On Jan. 7 at Lexington Catholic, Perry scored 45 points to lead Lyon County past North Laurel 90-83 in a game in which Sheppard finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.

Joining Perry on the Junior All-Stars boys’ roster: Derrell Bateman, Christian County; Brett Decker, Central Hardin; Christian Doerr, Evangel Christian; Ayden Evans, Elizabethtown; Will Gibson, DeSales; Max Green, Oldham County; QuelRon House, Seneca; Damone King, Manual; Trent Noah, Harlan County; Blake Reed, Bracken County; Mason Ritter, Bowling Green; Jay Rose, Madison Southern, and Kade Unseld, Warren Central.

Jeff Morrow of Iroquois High School in Louisville will coach the junior boys.

The girls’ Junior All-Stars roster includes Hayden Barrier, Montgomery County; Reagan Bender, Sacred Heart; Audrey Biggs, Boyd County; Dea Bradley, Hart County; Ayanna-Sarai Darrington, Frederick Douglass; Quinn Eubank, Ryle; Liz Freihofer, Cooper; Claire Johnson, McCracken County; Destiny Jones, Central; Mariah Knight, Christian Academy of Louisville; Angelina Pelayo, Sacred Heart; Trinity Rowe, Pikeville; Shaelyn Steele, Russell, and Ramiya White, Butler.

Pikeville’s Kristy Orem will coach the junior girls’ team.

Kentucky’s senior teams will face Indiana in boys-girls doubleheaders on June 9 at the Sportscenter in Owensboro and June 10 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Tickets are available at kentuckybasketballcoaches.org.
