Khloé Kardashian Defended Her Six-Year-Old Daughter for Wearing Makeup

Khloé Kardashian is speaking out after being criticized for letting her six-year-old daughter, True Thompson, wear makeup.

The conversation began after Kardashian, who just turned 40, shared a handful of pics of Thompson in a pink tutu and tights, her hair pulled back in a ballerina bun, as well as a red and white striped baseball-style tutu, socks, and baseball cap.

Thompson is wearing a tiiiiiny amount of makeup, notably red lipstick and some mascara, in the photos because, as Kardashian explained, she performed in a ballet and hip-hop dance recital that day. Her cousins Chicago West and Dream Kardashian also performed, as you can see in the final snapshot in Kardashian's gallery, and Kardashian's personal makeup artist, Ash K. Holm, also did Thompson's glam for her big performance.

If you have ever taken dance, skating, or gymnastics, you'll know that many performers wear stage makeup for recitals and performances. Kardashian explained as much in her caption, writing, “Obviously, none of our girls wear makeup like this regularly. This was for the recital only. They are beautiful just as they are.”

Kardashian realized she'd probably be criticized for the makeup, which is why she addressed it outrightly in her caption. When a fan pointed out that it was “sad you even have to specify about the makeup, but I understand why,” Kardashian replied saying that “people are cray cray,” which is why she had to explain. “Obvi I hope no one would do this normally to a 6 year old [sic].”

Of course, the Kardashian family has been criticized for their use of filters, FaceTune, and Photoshop, as well as the unrealistic beauty standards they have set for their followers, intentionally or otherwise. However, little girls wearing makeup for a ballet recital is a rite of passage, and it's obvious that Thompson and her cousins had a fabulous time showing off their skills — and that Khloé Kardashian has some rules and boundaries regarding her daughter's use of makeup at a young age. Makeup can and should be fun, no matter your age!
