Kids Go Sledding as Winter Storm Blankets DC Area

A major winter storm moving up the US Northeast began blanketing the Washington DC metropolitan area on Sunday, January 31, and was expected to bring between four and six inches of snow, the National Weather Service said.

Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a Snow Emergency on Saturday in anticipation of the storm, in effect from 9 am Sunday to 6 am Tuesday.

In Washington’s suburbs, children took advantage of the early dusting to go sledding. This video from WUSA9’s Mario Vizcarra shows the scenes at an elementary school in Shepherd Park. Credit: Mario Vizcarra/WUSA9 via Storyful
