Kim Barker appointed as Nunavut's chief medical health officer
Dr. Kim Barker, who was hired as Nunavut's deputy chief medical health officer in April 2015, has been promoted to the position of Nunavut's top doctor.
According to the Nunavut Gazette, Nunavut's previous chief medical health officer, Dr, Maureen Baikie, switched places with Barker as of Jan. 15, and Baikie's term as deputy chief medical health officer will end in April.
Barker was hired by the Government of Nunavut after resigning as head of the Algoma Public Health Unit, which has its headquarters in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
An assessment of the public health unit ordered by the Ontario Ministry of Health that was made public last June contained criticisms about Barker's job performance.
The territorial government has not announced who will take on the deputy CMHO position after Baikie's term finishes in April.
