Knives are out! Mark Hamill's 'Pym Reaper' arrives in “The Fall of the House of Usher” sneak peek

Mark Hamill's Arthur Pym, a.k.a. the "Pym Reaper," has arrived at Usher manor, and not even the cutthroat heirs to the family fortune can wriggle out of his ironclad nondisclosure agreement.

EW's exclusive sneak peek at Netflix's upcoming The Fall of the House of Usher — which we're revealing ahead of the miniseries' grand unveiling at this week's Fantastic Fest in Austin — sets the stage for the horrors to come. Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) and his twin sister, Madeline (Mary McDonnell), have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into a modern-day dynasty. But the knives are out.

Someone from within seems to be leaking secrets. Then in comes Hamill's Mr. Pym, the family's undefeated lawyer, to shut them all up with legalese.

The real dilemma of the series, which is inspired by the literary works of gothic poet Edgar Allan Poe, is that Verna (Carla Gugino), a shape-shifting demon from Roderick and Madeline's past, has reemerged to kill the heirs to the Usher fortune. But before that, the heads of House Usher have gathered the family to plug up the suspected leak. Perhaps it has something to do with Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly), the attorney hellbent on taking down what he has dubbed "the Usher Crime Family."

"The company is the family, and we expect each of you to defend it with your life," Madeline declares to her nieces and nephews. "And if anyone, anyone comes after us, we will exhaust our arsenal until the threat is neutralized." What does she mean by neutralized? "Like, dead."

The footage also introduces Roderick's six spoiled children. Henry Thomas stars as the eldest son, Frederick Usher, whom his sister nicknamed "Fraudrick." He's married to a former model and actress, Morella (Crystal Balint), and together they have a daughter, Lenore (Kyliegh Curran), whom Roderick considers the best of the Ushers. Samantha Sloyan plays Tamerlane, the eldest daughter, who set out with her fitness influencer husband, Bill T. Wilson (Matt Biedel), to launch a Goop-rivaling health and lifestyle brand.

T'Nia Miller plays Victorine LaFourcade, the eldest of Roderick's bastards. She has developed new heart mesh technology and works with her girlfriend, Dr. Alessandra "Al" Ruiz (Paola Nuñez), who quickly learns you don't say no to Madeline. Then there's Rahul Kohli as drug-addled socialite and gaming patron Napoleon Usher, Kate Siegel as sharp-tongued Usher public relations head Camille L'Espanaye, and Sauriyan Sapkota as party boy Prospero Usher.

Also seen at the table is Juno Usher (Ruth Codd), Roderick's second wife, a former junkie — hence Camille's quip to her stepmother about the prenup.

Created by Mike Flanagan, who also directed four episodes, and produced by his longtime partner Trevor Macy, The Fall of the House of Usher kicks off its eight-episode season Oct. 12. The first two episodes will screen early at Fantastic Fest starting this Friday.
