Turns out the reason Kourtney Kardashian has been working out isn’t solely for the purpose of posting all those badass gym selfies. (Although, surely that’s part of it.) Kardashian uses exercise as a way to feel better during stressful times.

In a post on her website entitled “Coping With My Anxiety,” the eldest Kardashian sister acknowledged that 2015 was not the easiest for her and exercise helped her through it.

“When I was pregnant with Reign, I knew that I was going to go hard at working out afterwards,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star wrote on her website. “I couldn’t wait to feel strong and in shape again. I didn’t know that I would be going through a break up and just an overall crazy year.”

Kardashian began the year with a newborn — son Reign — as she and longtime partner Scott Disick welcomed their third child on Dec. 14, 2014. Then, in July, she and Disick ended their nine-year romance after he was spotted canoodling with another woman on a vacation, while Kardashian was home with the kids.

“Everyone deals with hard times in their lives differently,” Kardashian continued in her post. “I’m generally not a nervous person but I get anxious. I also get nauseous and feel like I can’t eat when it is really bad, but I force myself to stay healthy.”

Her workout snaps show someone who definitely knows her way around a gym. As Kardashian explained, she aims to work out five times per week, usually in the morning so she can stop the anxiety before it starts.

In June, celeb trainer Don Brooks told E! that he worked with Kardashian several times a week while she was trying to lose the baby weight. Their sessions included a combination of cardio and endurance moves.

Kardashian explained in her post that the goal was deeper than bigger than fitting back into her jeans.

“People are very quick to judge others by appearances but you truly don’t know what someone’s motivation is or what is going on inside them,” she wrote. “For me, exercise is as much about my body as it is about calming my mind.”

Her mind must be pretty calm these days!
