KU Jayhawks football loses offensive line coach to Tennessee Titans, per reports

It’s been an eventful offseason for the University of Kansas football staff.

The Jayhawks have reportedly lost another coach, this time to the NFL.

KU offensive line coach Scott Fuchs is set to join the Tennessee Titans, according to FootballScoop. And the departure would be a big blow for the Jayhawks.

Fuchs has been a pivotal part of KU’s staff since joining Kansas in 2021 alongside head coach Lance Leipold. Before working with Leipold at Buffalo, Fuchs coached at such programs as Wyoming, North Dakota State and Southern Illinois.

He helped mentor KU’s offensive linemen to seven All-Big 12 selections. Left tackle Dominick Puni was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and earned first-team honors this past season.

KU’s stellar offensive line play was a big reason the team averaged 35.6 points per game in 2022 — the third-highest scoring offense in school history. The Jayhawks also allowed the fewest sacks in the conference in 2021 and 2022.

The departure of Fuchs couldn’t come at a worse time. The Jayhawks’ line is in flux, with starters Puni and Mike Novitsky graduating and Armaj Reed-Adams transferring to Texas A&M.

The Jayhawks did bring in Rimington Trophy winner Shane Bumgardner from Tiffin University (the Rimington annually recognizes the top center in football). And Michael Ford Jr., Bryce Cabeldue and Kobe Baynes — who started many games for KU — return next season.

Promising young lineman Calvin Clements, who started in KU’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl victory over UNLV, also returns.
