Ky. 2A Championships finals: LexCath boys rout Fleming County; Boyd County girls prevail

Lexington Catholic rolled to its second Kentucky 2A Championships title Sunday with an 81-54 win against Fleming County in the finals at Owensboro Sportscenter.

The Knights’ John Reinhart made a tournament-record nine 3-pointers, including seven in the first half, on the way to a game-high 31 points in the victory. Ryan Harward and Tyler Doyle added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

LexCath jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks in part to Reinhart’s first four 3-pointers. The Knights’ lead eventually grew to 37 points late in the third quarter as LexCath stunned a Fleming County team that on Saturday knocked off a DeSales squad ranked No. 13 in last week’s media poll.

Fleming County (13-5) was led by Adam Hargett’s 18 points. Seth Hickerson scored 17 and Isaac Frye added 11.

It was the third straight appearance for Lexington Catholic (18-1) in the Kentucky 2A finals. The Knights won the tournament in 2022 and lost to Mason County last season.

The Kentucky 2A Championships, organized by mid-size Kentucky schools and inspired by the longer running All “A” Classic for the state’s smallest schools, has held tournaments in multiple Kentucky high school sports since 2019. Kentucky 2A members number 56 schools from across the state, which are divided into eight sectional tournaments before teams advance to unifying tournaments and championships in Owensboro.

Lexington Catholic’s John Reinhart (22), shown against Great Crossing last season, made nine 3-pointers and scored 31 points against Fleming County on Sunday at the Kentucky 2A Championships finals in Owensboro.
