Langley house fire leaves one person dead

Langley RCMP say one person is dead after a fire broke out in a house on 76B Crescent around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews arrived to find a pool house in the back of the property fully engulfed in flames.

They later found the body of an adult male in the house, after successfully fighting off the fire.

"At this point, we believe it's the tenant of the pool house … an adult male tenant," said Staff Sgt. David Brown of Langley RCMP.

Brown also said two other people were on the property during the fire, but they both escaped unharmed.

Deputy Fire Chief Russell Jenkins, with the Langley Fire Department, said accessing water was an initial challenge for fire crews, but they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the main house on the property.

"I think our crews did a good job of saving the existing structures," said Jenkins. "This could have been much worse than it was, as far as fire spread."

The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but police say there is nothing to suggest it was suspicious.
