Large fire reported inside former factory building in East St. Louis

A former factory building at Brady Avenue and North 14th Street in East St. Louis caught fire Thursday afternoon.

It took firefighters from the East St. Louis Fire Department about half an hour to put out the blaze, said Fire Chief Derrick Burns.

The chief said leftover petroleum based products like tar paper and tires caught fire inside the building, sending thick dark smoke in the air.

The chief said no one was injured in the blaze, and firefighters were standing by to put out any hot spots.
