‘Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver Trolls Donald Trump After Claims Of Coming Up With “New Couple Of Words For Corn”

John Oliver trolled Donald Trump on Last Week Tonight after the former POTUS said he had created a new nickname for corn.

The HBO late-night show host dedicated Sunday’s episode to corn and noted the way politicians pander to the corn farmers.

“There is a long history of American politicians being weird around corn,” Oliver said, mentioning Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and George W. Bush.

Oliver gave Trump the honor of being the weirdest discussing corn cutting to a clip of the 2024 presidential hopeful during a MAGA rally in New Hampshire.

“I just met non-liquid gold, you know where it was? Iowa! It’s called corn,” Trump said in the clip. “You have more non-liquid gold. They said, ‘What is that?’ I said, ‘Corn!’ They said, ‘We love that idea.'”

Trump continued, “That’s a nickname in its own way, but we came up with a new word for… a new couple of words for corn!”

Oliver was seemingly confused with the word salad Trump delivered and said, “Did you though? Because non-liquid gold isn’t so much a way of describing corn as it is a way of describing regular gold.”

The host delivered another zinger, adding, “That’s a level of non-innovation innovation that we haven’t seen since Lyft invented something called Lyft Shuttle, which was—and this is true—the bus!”

Oliver would credit Trump for claiming that the U.S. is the “largest producer, consumer, and exporter of non-liquid not-gold in the world.”

At the end of the episode, Oliver announced that Last Week Tonight would not air an original episode on Sunday, May 26, but would return the following Sunday, June 2.
