Here’s the latest on Chiefs’ availability of Kadarius Toney, L’Jarius Sneed vs. Detroit Lions
Wide receiver and return specialist Kadarius Toney suffered a knee injury as training camp was getting underway, but he should be ready to play in the Kansas City Chiefs’ season-opening game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
“Right now, he’s good to go,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Sunday. “He’s moving around pretty good.”
On a day when no progress was reported on the holdout of All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones, the news was better involving players returning from injuries. Besides Toney, Reid said cornerback L’Jarius Sneed also could be ready for action Thursday.
Sneed has been dealing with swelling in his knee and is day to day, Reid said.
“We’ll take it day by day, but right now, I’d tell you they’re good to go,” Reid said. “(Toney) practiced the other day, fast — and he’ll get in there (Sunday) and do the same thing. We’ll just take it day by day, make sure he’s feeling all right. I’d tell you the same thing with Sneed. The same deal. We’ll just kind of play it by ear.”
At the portion of practice open to reporters on Sunday, Toney was wearing a compression sleeve on his right leg,
Toney, acquired from the New York Giants last season, caught 14 passes and two touchdowns for the Chiefs in seven regular-season games. In the playoffs, he came up with seven receptions, including a touchdown grab, in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Toney also set up a touchdown with a record 65-yard punt return.
He’s one of seven wide receivers on the Chiefs roster, joining Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Richie James, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson and Justyn Ross.
Sneed started all 17 regular-season games and three playoff games last season. He’s the team’s most experienced cornerback. He was limited in training camp.
The team’s first official injury report of the week will be released Monday.
