Lauren Sánchez Says Jeff Bezos Still Has His 'Door Desk' from Early Days of Amazon
The "door desk" was one of many that Bezos had made after he decided he couldn't afford real desks for his growing company
In an Instagram post, Lauren Sánchez shared that her fiancé Jeff Bezos still works on the same "door desk" as he did back in the '90s
Built for Amazon employees, the desks were made from real doors because they were cheaper than buying new ones
“I just love that he is still working from one of the first desks that have been around since the beginning,” she said of Bezos
Lauren Sánchez is paying tribute to her fiancé Jeff Bezos’ ingenuity!
In an Instagram post on Sunday, the helicopter pilot and aviation business woman, 54, revealed that Bezos still relies on one of the first keys to his success — his “door desk.”
In two photos, the Amazon founder, 60, is shown working at the iconic desk, which was made from a door during the company’s infancy when finances were tight.
“After all these years... When I walked in on him working this morning, I took this picture,” Sánchez wrote. “I just love that he is still working from one of the first desks that have been around since the beginning (see next slide). This is where countless hours of hard work meet the heart of Day one. Here’s to the endless pursuit of what’s possible. ❤️”
Bezos had the idea to build his employees desks made out of doors as a cost-savings measure in 1995, said Nico Lovejoy, the company’s fifth employee at the time, according to Amazon’s website.
“We happened to be across the street from a Home Depot,” Lovejoy said in an article published on the company's website in 2018. “He looked at desks for sale and looked at doors for sale, and the doors were a lot cheaper, so he decided to buy a door and put some legs on it.”
