NBC has confirmed the renewals of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

The network has ordered a whopping three new seasons for each of the four dramas, which will come as highly-welcome news for fans of the Dick Wolf-produced shows.

These renewals come as part of a new five-year deal that Wolf signed to remain at Universal Television, which reportedly also includes the promise of more series.

Law & Order: SVU is currently in its 21st season and actually holds the title of longest-running live-action primetime series, beating the previous record of 20 seasons set by the original Law & Order (1990-2010) and Gunsmoke (1955-75).

"We tip our cap to Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay and the amazing cast and crew of SVU, who now all go into the record book," said Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks, co-chairmen of NBC Entertainment, in response to it breaking the record.

"This incredible run is an example of what happens when producers, writers and actors all come together and create a show that, year after year, speaks to its audience in a powerful way. We couldn't be more proud of this remarkable achievement."

This new renewal of three more seasons will now see Law & Order: SVU cross the 500-episode mark.

The three Chicago series are also some of the most-watched shows in the US, with Fire pulling in 11.4 million viewers, and both Med and P.D. averaging 11 million.

These renewals come after the announcement that This Is Us – the Mandy Moore-led family drama with intertwining timelines – will also receive three new seasons, as will medical drama New Amsterdam.

NBC clearly likes doing things in threes.
