Leisure centre reveals multimillion-pound upgrade plans
A leisure centre has secured funding for a multimillion-pound revamp, its chief executive has said.
The plans for the Horizon centre in Waterlooville, Hampshire, include a bigger gym, a children's soft play, a cafe, an outdoor football pitch and paddle courts, such as tennis and squash.
Money for the project has been provided by Winchester City Council, Havant Borough Council and Horizon Leisure.
Mike Lyons, chief executive for Horizon Leisure, said: “We recognise the need to prioritise investment in our facilities to encourage participation and promote wellbeing for all.”
He added: “As a charitable organisation our aim is to encourage people to lead active, healthy lives.
"To help achieve this we need inspiring and welcoming facilities with high quality equipment.
“The population around Waterlooville has significantly increased, with more people moving to the area, so it's important our facilities are able to meet the increased demand.”
It is hoped the centre will remain open during the works.
Following a public consultation, the refurbishment is due to be completed by early 2025.
