Lexington seeks public input on proposed design changes aimed at Fayette County growth

The city of Lexington is seeking input on the draft designs for growth in Fayette County at an open house Monday, July 15, from 2-7 p.m. at the Lexington Senior Center, 195 Life Line.

“The designs include walkable town centers, neighborhoods and businesses,” a news release stated. “They also include roads, trails, green space, parks and other quality of life elements. The Urban Growth Master Plan team will be at the open house to guide residents through the plans and answer questions.”

The Urban County Council initially approved expanding the Urban Service Boundary in June 2023. Lexington’s Planning Commission recommended a 2,800-acre expansion of the boundary in five locations across Fayette County. The boundary identifies parts of the country where urban services (garbage collection, street lights, street sweeping, etc.) are provided and a high density for development is allowed.

Lexington’s Division of Planning, with a team of consultants, will present the final plan for growth in October, according to the release.
