Lindsay Lohan renaissance begins with Netflix 'Falling for Christmas' movie

It’s a Christmas miracle!

Lindsay Lohan, our favourite late 1990s-2000s leading lady, is back on our screens in the Netflix Christmas movie Falling for Christmas, also starring Chord Overstreet and featuring her sister Aliana Lohan.

We first meet hotel heiress Sierra Belmont (Lohan), not unlike Paris Hilton, asleep in a bed of silk sheets, with a silk eye mask and nightgown at her father's Belmont Summit Resort. She’s certainly spoiled with her glam squad hovering around her and feeding her caviar with champagne. Lohan's sister Aliana holds up designer clothes for Sierra to pick from.

Sierra gets on the phone with her boyfriend Tad (George Young), who’s an insufferable influencer whose only interest is continuing to trend online. Sierra tells him she doesn’t want her dad’s job offer for her, as the “Vice President of Atmosphere.”

“It’s not even a real job. I think he just made it up to give me something to do,” Sierra says as she takes a sip of champagne.

On the flip side Jake (Overstreet) is trying to save The North Star Lodge, which has been owned by his deceased wife’s family for generations, but isn’t getting the occupancy it needs to survive with the luxurious Belmont resort around.

On a trip to take some Instagram-worthy pictures, with Sierra singing “Jingle Bell Rock” on the way (a nod to Mean Girls), Tad proposes at the top of a mountain. But things take a dark turn when both Tad and Sierra fall down opposite sides of the summit. Jake finds Sierra, not knowing she’s the hotel heiress, and ensures she gets medical attention.

Reminiscent of 50 First Dates, Sierra wakes up in a hospital bed, with Jake in the room, but she has no idea who she is. Jake invites her to stay at The North Star Lodge, with his mother-in-law Alejandra (Alejandra Flores) and his daughter Avy (Olivia Perez), until someone comes to find her or her memory comes back.

Of course, feelings between Jake and Sierra start to heat up, just as we get closer to Christmas and as Sierra starts to enjoy this simpler life.

Falling For Christmas is definitely a heartfelt Christmas movie that allows Lohan to shine once again as the lead in a movie. As the behind-the-scenes moments during the credits show, it seems like she had a lot of fun doing it.

Will it be as iconic as movies like Mean Girls? Not likely. Is some of the CGI not the best? Yes. Are some of the lines corny? Sure. But will it give you that warm and fuzzy Christmas feeling, while relishing in Lohan’s return to our screens? Absolutely.

If you’re wondering whether Lohan still as the acting chops to lead a movie, I’m happy to say yes and she’s still giving us that great comedy wit, in addition to exercising her physical comedy muscles as well.

The bottom line is, the Lohan renaissance is upon us and we wouldn't have it any other way. We can't wait to see what the famed actor does next.
