Lorde doesn't need your unsolicited acne advice

Lorde has lost tolerance for people’s unwelcome advice on how to clear her acne-prone skin.

The popstar, 21, shared an Instagram story over the weekend while undergoing blue and red light therapy to help combat her blemishes. Poking fun at the many miracle solutions that have failed her in the past, the singer revealed that acne is something she’s been dealing with for years.

“For real though, acne sucks,” Lorde said at the beginning of the video, which sees her lying down in the dark while using the LED device.

“You know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me? It’s moisturizing!'”

She then listed the tips people had given her, assuming she hadn’t tried before.

“Make a mask out of honey, Greek yogurt and avocado!” she said.

“All you need to do is buy an apricot scrub. Coconut oil. The secret is coconut oil!”

Venting to more than six million fans, Lorde spoke of her frustration with people who suggest her acne is a result of poor hygiene.

“And the very worst one of course is when people think you’re just dirty,” she said. “‘Do you wash your face?'”

“It’s like, yes, I wash my face, I’m just genetically cursed.”

The “Melodrama” singer showed support for people who suffer with similar skin conditions, sharing a message for those with “bad skin—and actual bad skin, not the kind of bad skin you can just use a fancy cream for for a few days and it will get better.”

“I feel your pain,” she said. “We’ll get there. We will. I promise.”

The New Zealander has long been candid about her battle with blemishes. In 2014 she shared comparative photos that showed how photoshopped images made her look perfect but were far from reality.

“I find this curious,” she said of the discrepancy between the two images, before telling her followers: “Remember flaws are OK.”
