Three friends from Mount Pearl, N.L. were excited to find out they had scored the big $1M prize on the Feb. 15 Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.

Rosalind Skinner, Kimberly Chaulk and Kelli Bursey call themselves the “Lotto Buddies,” and first met when their children started playing hockey together.

While on a summer camping trip one day, they decided to buy lottery tickets together each week.

As part of their weekly routine, Skinner headed to a Marie’s Mini Mart, where she purchased the winning ticket. She was shocked to find out that they had scored big with the Gold Ball draw.

“I was almost just as excited to find out what their reactions would be,” Skinner said. “Kelli’s the screamer and Kim’s the crier and I’m just like, ‘Yeah, we won!”

The win came from a Lotto 6/49 draw that takes place every Wednesday and Saturday, with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn.

The trio scored a white ball that day, leading to their jackpot.

“There was a lot of tears, but there was a lot of laughing through the tears at the same time,” Bursey said. “They were happy tears for sure.”

All three women say their win will help them enjoy a worry-free retirement when the time comes. Other plans for the prize money include paying off bills, completing home renovations and traveling.

“We’re basically all on the same track with what we’re going to do,” Bursey said. “We can all breathe a sigh of relief now.”
