Lydia Gets Closer To Saving Stiles On ‘Teen Wolf’

“Teen Wolf” Season 6, episode 9 was called “Memory Found,” but that title should’ve been plural. There were many, many flashbacks this week. After discovering that the Sheriff saw Stiles for a moment when he remembered his son, the pack is convinced that remembering Stiles is the key to bringing him back and start digging for memories. First though, they had to avoid the Ghost Riders.

The Decoys: Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) wants the Sheriff (Linden Ashby) to ask Theo (Cody Christian) for help. With all of his deputies suddenly taken by the Wild Hunt, the Sheriff doesn’t have a choice. He has to rely on teenagers. The Ghost Riders only left Theo, who is still in a cell. The Sheriff asks Theo to tell him one thing about Stiles before he lets the villain out.

“He was smart,” Theo says, just before the Sheriff leaves. “He was smart enough not to trust me.” The Sheriff releases him, and they go to face the Ghost Riders. There seems to be a dozen waiting at the door, and they immediately shoot the Sheriff.

After stealing a police car, the boys run over a Ghost Rider and drive off. They have a lot on the line. If Scott (Tyler Posey) doesn’t remember Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), Liam believes everyone in Beacon Hills will be lost.

They go to the hospital, where everyone is missing. Theo remembers his sister torturing him here. Liam brings him to the morgue to hide, but they can’t really escape the Ghost Riders. Liam decides to use Theo as bait.

They manage to cleverly fight off some Ghost Riders, but they’re all over the hospital. Liam knows that they’re getting shot eventually, but he’s not going down without a good fight. He tells Theo that he can run, but Liam is fighting. Theo runs into the battle behind him. They actually manage to kill several Ghost Riders. When another gang of them comes, Theo shoves Liam into an elevator. He promises to be the bait. Theo sacrifices himself to the Ghost Riders.

Scott’s Brother: Scott, Lydia (Holland Roden) and Malia (Shelley Hennig) think the freezing chamber that Parrish (Ryan Kelley) was in could be used to help them remember Stiles through hypnosis. Scott goes in first. Lydia isn’t sure they’re making the machine work correctly, and it’s definitely cold enough to kill a person. They have to hope they haven’t made it cold enough to kill an alpha.

After a moment, Scott goes into a trance. His eyes go red, but his mind is in a different place. He’s at home, and he can hear parts of the past. He remembers fighting with Stiles after he kissed Lydia. He goes through all the memories of Stiles.

Scott looks distressed, so Malia wants to get him out. Lydia thinks Scott is drowning in the memories. She tries to guide him and get him through the memories one by one. She tells Scott to visualize the memories in lockers in the high school. He has to open each one to get a new memory.

There are so many, though. After all, he has known Stiles for most of his life. Malia theorizes that he needs to find an emotional memory. She reminds him that he and Stiles wanted to get an apartment together after graduation. Despite Malia saying that living with friends isn’t always a great idea, Stiles said it didn’t matter because they were more like brothers.

Scott remembers the moment in Season 3 when he was covered with gasoline and holding a flare. Stiles told him that he needed Scott and they’re brothers. Stiles put his hand on the flare and offered to die with him. Lydia ended up saving them that day, and Lydia saves Scott from the chamber today too.

His heart rate dropped too low, and she needed to pull him out. Scott is disappointed to realize that it didn’t work. Malia jumps in the machine while Scott recovers.

Malia’s Anchor: Malia visualizes herself in the library. The books on the shelves are her memories. She finds the Stiles shelf and grabs a book called “The Exposition Workshop.” She remembers meeting him at Eichen House. She remembers when he told her, “I’d never leave you behind.”

Scott and Lydia ask her to open her eyes, but she doesn’t follow the command right away. The dream version of herself starts to turn to ice, and Scott and Lydia see her heart rate dropping too low. Unfortunately, they have to stop it right as the rift starts to open. They can’t kill Malia to save Stiles.

Lydia’s Love: Scott and Malia think Lydia has to try to bring him back. They both remember Lydia and Stiles’ friendship. They can’t freeze her, though. She’s a banshee, but her genetic makeup is that of an average human. They have to actually hypnotize her. Lydia gives Scott and Malia an induction script (luckily, her mother sent her to hypnotist when she was 10 for nail biting). Scott has her look at a TV with memories of her life.

Lydia remembers Stiles telling her that she is smart. She recalls Stiles’ panic attack. She kissed him to make him hold his breath. She read once that holding your breath could stop a panic attack.

“That’s when it happened,” Lydia says. She sees a bunch of other memories of Stiles protecting her and being with her. “When I kissed him. That’s when it all changed,” she tells Scott and Malia.

She suddenly remembers the night he was taken. She recalls Stiles saying “I love you,” and she realizes she didn’t get to see it back to him. That’s when the rift activates. The room starts shaking, and Lydia looks at the tunnel where the Ghost Riders’ portal is. She sees a bright light and someone is coming through it. “Stiles?” Lydia asks, but viewers don’t see who it is. However, it seems like Stiles has to be returning.

The “Teen Wolf” Season 6 winter finale airs Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. EST on MTV.
