Machine Gun Kelly has unveiled his striking new upper body tattoo, claiming he had the inking for “spiritual purposes”.

The American musician took to Instagram on Tuesday night to share a shirtless photo of himself, showcasing the upper torso tattoo that features a cross symbol etched across his chest.

The inking takes over the Bloody Valentine hitmaker’s arms, chest and covers most of his previous body art.

Captioning the post, the 33-year-old wrote: “For spiritual purposed only” before thanking tattoo artist Roxx. He also claimed that his new tatt required “44 needles” on his Instagram Story.

MGK’s tattoo artist revealed that the star underwent a “spiritual consultation” beforehand, telling her that his previous tattoos were “too chaotic for him now and he was seeking change and order in his life”.

Roxx went on to tell TMZ that MGK was the “toughest client she's ever had” in her 30-year-long career.

Discussing the project, which started in mid-December, she told the outlet that MGK visited her L.A. studio four days a week for 13 six-hour sessions.

Sharing her work on her Instagram, she wrote: “Made some art with @machinegunkelly Never met a tougher one.”

To which the rapper replied in the comment section, “thanks for the joy and the pain.”

Machine Gun Kelly new appearance comes hours before he’s due to release his latest single, Don’t Let Me Go, on Wednesday. His last single, Pressure, came out last May.

He's also switched his name to 'mgk' on YouTube and streaming services, amid speculation he would change his moniker last year.
