The federal government's $30 million investment in a major new tourism campaign called Connecting America is being applauded by the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce.

The money will be used to attract U.S. visitors to Canada through a three-year, industry driven campaign.

Over the last few years there has been a strong lobby for Ottawa to invest more dollars in tourism marketing, says Kathy Hambly, the chamber's executive director.

"This particular announcement was good news for us because we see real opportunity to grow U.S. visitation to our region and to our province," said Hambly.

"So seeing this investment of $30 million over three years is certainly a step in the right direction. And I think it shows that the federal government sees opportunities as well and has been listening."

Hambly says businesses across the province benefit from any increase in tourism marketing for the region.
