Man in his 30s dead after early morning stabbing in Scarborough

A man in his 30s is dead after a stabbing inside a Scarborough apartment building early Saturday, Toronto police say.

Police said they were called to a Toronto Community Housing complex on Gordonridge Place, near Danforth Road and Midland Avenue, for a possible stabbing around 8 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found the man in medical distress, suffering from at least one stab wound, in the elevator on the 18th floor.

Toronto paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said they are trying to identify the man and next of kin have not been notified yet.

The man's name and age has not been released.

Police believe the victim was targeted and that residents of the complex are not at risk.

No weapon has been found and police say they are looking for a black male who is approximately six feet tall. The suspect was believed to be wearing a dark blue jacket, grey track pants and grey hooded sweatshirt.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.
