Man charged after dashcam captures Regina vandalism

A man is facing a mischief charge less than a month after a video that appeared to show him writing on a car was posted to Facebook.

Regina police said they first received a report of the incident, which took place in the parking lot of a restaurant on the 2900 block of Gordon Road, on May 10.

They said the vehicle owner was inside the restaurant when an unknown suspect used a permanent marker to write on the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.

The incident was caught on a dashboard camera, which the owner submitted to police and also posted to a Facebook page that shames bad parkers in the province.

Within days, members of the public had provided a name to go with the image of the vandal.

The suspect, Cihan Diker, is set to appear in court on July 14.

Clarification : Editor's note: An earlier version of this story did not include the name of the suspect. It is CBC's policy to only name people facing charges if we can commit to following their case through the court. Each case is judged on resources and editorial merit. In this case, the video in the story identifies the suspect anyway so we have updated the story. (May 28, 2015 5:17 PM)
