A 27-year-old man has died after a shooting in the city's northwest end Tuesday morning.

Police have since identified the victim as Gidid Mohamed, of Toronto.

Toronto police say they responded to a shooting in the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West at approximately 3:30 a.m.

They arrived to find Mohamed and another victim both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers began CPR on Mohamed, but he died at the scene. Paramedics say the second victim, a 37-year-old man, was was taken to a trauma centre in serious but stable condition.

The shooting happened near an elementary school in the area, Insp. Craig Young said.

"It is in and of itself frightening given that we have bullets flying in the vicinity of an elementary school," Young told reporters at the scene.
