Police identify man, 53, shot dead in Etobicoke driveway

Toronto police have identified a man shot dead in Etobicoke early Friday as Antonio Sergi, 53.

Sergi was found shot dead on a driveway in a residential area.

A spokeperson for Toronto Police Service's 23 Division said police were called to the shooting on La Rush Drive, near Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue West, in Etobicoke at 2:29 a.m.

The person who called police said they heard a loud bang and then saw a man lying in the driveway near some recycling bins.

Sergi was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

Police said the suspect is described as a male, about five feet 11 inches to six feet one inch, with an average build. He was wearing a dark blue tuque and dark clothing.

The suspect was last seen running on the sidewalk away from the address.

Toronto paramedics said Sergi was without vital signs when they arrived on the scene. They did not transport him to hospital.

Earlier, police said in a tweet that officers located a victim with very serious gunshot wounds.

Police are investigating and have taped off the scene. They also blocked off an area nearby where some footprints may have been found.

Neighbours told reporters that Sergi lived at the address for the past 20 years with his wife.

They said the neighbourhood is actually very peaceful and the shooting "very sad".

Police investigated a car fire at the same address as the shooting in March 2015.
