Man dies after head-on crash with car going wrong direction on highway near Lethbridge

One man is dead after the car he was driving was struck by an oncoming car going the wrong direction on a divided highway northwest of Lethbridge, Alta.

Investigators believe a Toyota Corolla that was eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 3 hit a Chevrolet Impala at about 5 p.m. on Monday, RCMP said in a release.

The 42-year-old driver of the Chevrolet died on the way to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. RCMP are not releasing the name of the man, who was from Stand Off.

His 12-year-old passenger was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor back injuries.

The 61-year-old driver of the Toyota was not seriously injured, but he was taken to hospital as a precaution, RCMP said.

The collision happened about two kilometres west of the Highway 509 intersection.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Road and weather conditions were good at the time.
