Man dies after a snorkeling incident off the Florida Keys, sheriff’s office says

A man died Tuesday afternoon at a Florida Keys hospital after losing consciousness on an offshore snorkeling trip, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The man swam back to a boat owned by dive operator Sebago Watersports around 10:40 a.m. when he passed out, according to the sheriff’s office.

The boat crew began CPR and moved him to shore, where medics took him to the Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name, age and home town were not immediately available.

An autopsy is pending, but the sheriff’s office said foul play is not suspected.
