Man killed on motorcycle in Monroe County crash is identified, driver of car is cited

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of a man who died when his motorcycle collided with a passenger sedan over the weekend.

Sean T. Bowman, 54, of St. Louis was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at about 2:43 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

According to a release from Monroe County Sheriff’s Sgt. Justin Biggs, Bowman was riding his 2016 Honda motorcycle northbound on Bluff Road near Columbia when a 2006 Pontiac G6 ran through a stop sign on Hanover Road and struck Bowman and the motorcycle.

A passenger on the motorcycle, a 50-year-old woman from St. Louis, was transported by ambulance to a St. Louis-area hospital, where she remains in serious condition, according to Biggs.

The driver of the Pontiac, Steven A. Albert, 79, of Columbia, was cited for disobeying a stop sign. There may be additional charges, pending ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s department and Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

Albert was transported by deputies to a local hospital “to determine if any intoxicating substances played a part in this unfortunate accident,” the release stated.

An 80-year-old female passenger in Albert’s car was uninjured, Biggs said.
