Man wrestles shark, the inevitable ensues

An Australian man is lucky to be alive after he attempted to wrestle a shark and escaped with only a flesh wound.

In the video, posted to YouTube on May 3, a group of men on a fishing boat can be seen tugging at one end of a fishing line as a large shark thrashes about on the other. One of the men in the clip was Josh Neille, a tattooed and dreadlocked Aussie who apparently thought it would be a good idea to hop in the water and wrestle the nine-foot beast.

In the video’s caption, Neille explains what motivated his questionable decision:

“My plan was to tail rope it drag it up on the deck and use a pipe to lock in its mouth then place my arm in the pipe and retrieve the hook and trace then get a photo and release the shark and try and catch a smaller one better eating.”

Unfortunately, Neille was only in the water for a few seconds when the shark predictably attacked, digging its teeth into the top of his right thigh. Though he managed to disengage himself from the fish within seconds, Neille was still left with a good chunk missing from his leg, a fact graphically memorialised in a series of photos that appear after the video clip.

In the end, the men killed the shark and ate it, and Neille headed to Weipa Hospital in remote Northern Queensland to be treated for his injuries.

There’s a lesson in here somewhere, but we’re not totally sure of what it is.

Wait, yes we are. DON’T WRESTLE SHARKS.
