Here’s who Manatee County football teams are playing in the FHSAA playoffs this week

Four Manatee County high school football teams begin their quest for a state championship this week.

The Florida High School Athletic Association released playoff brackets on Sunday.

Manatee, Palmetto, Lakewood Ranch and Parrish Community made the dance.

The Hurricanes were assured of a playoff berth as a district champion, while Palmetto, Lakewood Ranch and Parrish Community had to qualify as wild card teams through the FHSAA’s power rankings.

The power rankings also determine seeding, though district champions are guaranteed a home playoff game in Friday’s regional quarterfinal round even when playing a higher-seeded wild card team.

After a 49-0 victory over crosstown rival Southeast to cap its regular season at 8-2, Manatee locked up the No. 2 seed in the Class 4S-Region 4 playoffs.

Palmetto (5-4) secured the sixth seed in 4S-4, while Lakewood Ranch (4-6) snagged the No. 8 seed in 4S-4.

Eight teams per region qualify for the playoffs and 32 teams are in the playoffs per classification.

Manatee plays Punta Gorda Charlotte, a team the Canes beat earlier this season, at home on Friday, while Palmetto travels to Sarasota Riverview and Lakewood Ranch heads to Venice.

In 3S-4, Parrish Community qualified as the No. 7 seed. It’s the first playoff berth in program history. The Bulls went 7-3 in head coach Dylan Clark’s first year. It’s the fourth season Parrish has played varsity football.

The Bulls play at Naples in Friday’s regional quarterfinal.

Braden River finished 11th in the 3S-4 power rankings after a 5-5 season, and Bayshore placed 11th in the final FHSAA power rankings for 2S-4 following a 4-6 campaign.
